X spent nine months promising a trade button. On September 15, the platform finally shipped one, and Kraken sits behind it. Starting today, US users can tap any crypto cashtag on X and land directly inside Kraken’s order flow. The exchange says the feature covers more than 2,400 tokens. Notably, that list extends past Bitcoin and Ethereum into Solana and Robinhood Chain assets. The launch marks the first time a major US crypto exchange has plugged directly into X’s timeline. As a result, the distance between reading about a token and buying it has collapsed to a single tap.

How the X Kraken Cashtag Flow Works

The mechanics are simple by design. A user sees a cashtag like XRP or SOL in a post and taps it. X then opens an asset panel with a live price chart and related discussion. From there, a new “Trade” option presents a short list of brokerage partners. Choosing Kraken deep-links the user into the Kraken app or web platform. New users create an account, while existing users log in and place the order.

Importantly, X never touches the trade itself. The platform has repeated that point since April, when former product head Nikita Bier said X “will not execute trades or act as a brokerage.” Instead, X acts as a referral layer, and Kraken handles execution, custody, and compliance. Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, described the goal as closing “the gap between seeing a ticker on the timeline and accessing the underlying market.” In other words, X owns the discovery, and the partner owns the transaction.

Kraken Is One of Five Launch Partners

Kraken did not land this slot alone. X’s Cashtag Partner Program launched with five brokerages: Kraken, Coinbase, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo. That mix matters. Two of the five are traditional equities brokers, so the same tap-to-trade flow now covers stocks and crypto. Meanwhile, three US crypto exchanges are competing for the same referral traffic inside the same panel.

Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceXAI, framed the program as a way to move “from discovery and conversation to a brokerage, without breaking the moment.” Coinbase’s David Farmer echoed that pitch, saying users can now go “from discovery to decision-making and trading in just a few clicks.” Neither X nor the partners disclosed the commercial terms. However, the program sits under X’s advertising organization, which suggests a paid placement or referral arrangement rather than a pure product integration.

Why 2,400 Tokens Is the Real Headline

Kraken’s differentiator in this lineup is breadth. Its post on X specifically called out Solana tokens and Robinhood Chain tokens, not just blue-chip assets. That language points to Kraken’s onchain investing product, which launched earlier this year. The feature lets users buy thousands of tokens that Kraken has not formally listed. Instead, Kraken routes the order through decentralized exchanges and settles it into a self-custodial wallet inside the app.

The details matter for anyone tapping a long-tail cashtag. Kraken creates the wallet automatically on the first purchase, with no seed phrase required. Every swap carries a flat 1% fee baked into the quote, and orders typically settle in under a minute. Additionally, Kraken states that it never holds the private keys for these assets. The company also warns that DEX tokens are not reviewed or custodied by Kraken. Therefore, a user who taps a memecoin cashtag on X gets fast access, but also takes on full responsibility for that token’s risk.

Robinhood Chain Enters the Picture

The Robinhood Chain mention deserves attention. Robinhood’s Arbitrum-based Layer 2 went live on mainnet on July 1, after a testnet that processed more than 200 million transactions. In under two months, the chain has cleared over $47 billion in cumulative DEX volume. Its ecosystem now includes tokenized stocks and ETFs alongside a growing set of native tokens.

Kraken added Robinhood Chain to its supported DEX networks alongside Solana. Consequently, a competitor’s chain has become a distribution channel for Kraken’s order flow. That reflects a broader pattern. Kraken, Coinbase, and Robinhood have all expanded into each other’s territory, blending equities, tokenized assets, and crypto into single platforms. X’s cashtag panel now puts those competitors side by side in front of the same retail user.

A Long Road to the Trade Button

X’s path here was slow. Bier first teased in-app crypto trading on January 11, suggesting a February arrival. Cashtags then launched on April 14 for iPhone users in the US and Canada, with charts and contract-address matching but no trading. Canadian users got a Wealthsimple button, while US users waited. Within days, Bier claimed cashtags had driven roughly $1 billion in trading volume on external platforms.

Bier stepped down as head of product on August 5 and moved to an advisory role. On August 25, he promised trade buttons a third time without naming a partner. Three weeks later, the program is live with five partners, and Kraken is one of them. The next question is whether X’s financial community actually converts. Cashtag traffic already exists. Now, for the first time, X can measure what happens after the tap.
